Joanne Bacon

Assistant Clinical Manager

I started working for SYEDA in 2017 while studying for a Counselling Diploma, I started on a placement and after working around a year voluntarily I was asked to stay on as a paid clinician.

I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a First-Class Honours Degree in Counselling Solutions.

Along with my role as the Assistant Clinical Manager at SYEDA, I am also one of the Counsellors. I work full time in a variety of clinical areas including delivery of assessments, supervision, one to one counselling sessions, supporting staff training. I also work one day a week in Rotherham overseeing our outreach team. In addition, as part of my role I liaise with other ED services in Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

I help support my clients by holding a confidential space for them to explore why certain behaviors, which they may have potentially created in childhood, are still being maintained in adulthood. By holding a space for reflection and with the use of theories studied, I can offer clients a different perspective, enabling them to see why they may view their world through a certain lens. For me, the key to change comes from the understanding of how a person experience themselves from within.

I enjoy reading, if I could live in a library, I would. I also enjoy watching films, especially true-life dramas, and conversely you can find me outdoors as I enjoy running and walking my little French Bulldogs.
