ARFID - SELF Help Guide

Thank you for accessing our ARFID course, which has been developed to support individuals who are, or suspect they may be, struggling with symptoms of ARFID.

This course has been designed to support you to start making changes to your eating. The course involves learning more about ARFID and the various ways it can present, thinking about your eating and the changes you would like to make, and starting to make small steps towards recovery.

The course is a 4-step programme, which you can move through at your own pace. The steps include:

1.      Learning about ARFID and making some early changes

2.      Continuing early changes and setting big goals

3.      Facing your fears

4.      Preventing relapse

We encourage you to take this one step at a time, allowing yourself time and space to feel comfortable and confident before moving forwards. Remember, this is your journey, and you need to move at a pace that feels best for you.

The course involves a presentation, with a support pack for you to complete as you go along. Within the support pack, there are various worksheets and additional pieces of information. If you a symbol of a hand/pen in the corner of a slide, it means there is a corresponding worksheet within the support pack for you to complete.

You might also find it helpful to discuss the course with someone you trust, so they can support you through your recovery journey.

Most importantly, treat yourself with kindness and compassion. It is not your fault that this happened; it is a logical response developed to protect you.
