Mary Wood

Diabetes and Eating Disorder Adult Clinical Dietetic Lead

I lead the South Yorkshire Diabetes and Eating Disorders Programme at SYEDA, working in collaboration with the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to improve care for people living with both diabetes and eating difficulties. My role focuses on strengthening collaboration between services, creating professional training and resources, facilitating MDT working, establishing peer support networks, providing clinical supervision, liaising with established specialist services across the country, and ensuring lived experience shapes service development.

Alongside this, I am a Diabetes Clinical Lead Dietitian at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. I have experience supporting people with a wide range of diabetes types and treatments, including oral therapies, GLP-1 medications, insulin regimens, pumps and hybrid closed-loop systems. I also deliver structured education for people with type 1 diabetes. My previous experience includes working in a Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service and as a freelance dietitian.

I am an HCPC-registered dietitian with an MSc and BSc in Dietetics and a qualified supplementary prescriber, with additional training in diabetes, eating disorders and behaviour change. I am passionate about building therapeutic relationships grounded in compassion, understanding and active listening, ensuring each person’s needs remain central to their care.

Outside of work, I enjoy climbing, skiing, travelling and campervan adventures.
