I represent SYEDA on the Mental Health Board. I became a Trustee in 2009, becoming Chair in 2011. My interest in SYEDA begain when my late daughter was suffering from anorexia. I joined the carers’ support group and did the Treading on Eggshells Course.
Our daughter, Stephanie did begin to recover and embarked on her voluntary work in the Galapagos Islands, then to travel through South America. Unfortunately during this stage her eating disorder took hold again, and she died suddenly in Lima.
SYEDA was very supportive following her death, and also acted in a advocacy role in my discussions with the NHS regarding her care and treatment.
I was then keen to assist SYEDA in any way in order to help other families, sufferers and carers, to try to improve services for people affected by eating disorders. I was a member of the Service Users’ Advisory Group, before being asked to join the Board in 2009.
I am a retired schoolteacher and my interests range from travelling, swimming & walking; other voluntary activities linked to church, I am passionate about climate change, fair-trade and standing up for the vulnerable both at home and abroad. I am volunteer in CAFOD, SHIFT, & SVP. I also enjoy reading, cooking and handicrafts.
