Private View

  • King Edward VII Lower Schoo l, Darwin Lane Sheffield, S10 5RG (map)

PREPARE to be plunged into the funny, filthy and grotesquely honest world of the twenty-something female at King Edward VII Lower school.

Private View fuses dance, verbatim text and a vast amount of chocolate cake. Part love story and part hate mail, Izabella Malewska, Tutku Barbaros and Lilly Pollard are three women trying to work out what is going on.

This dark and comic show is not pretending to be a solution to the ruthless
ideals that society forces on women, nor is it promising to offer clarity on how to navigate modern femininity; it is just three girls inviting you to join their attempt to discover what being a woman in 2016 means to them, digging deeply through a surmounting pile of wax strips, celery sticks and Beyoncé CDs on the way.

Having met at Sussex University and unified by a keen sense of the ridiculous, Izabella Malewska, Tutku Barbaros and Lilly Pollard formed Plunge Theatre to make work that’s original, funny and empathetic. They were the Lyric Theatre’s Emerging Artist residents in May 2013. At present they are resident artists at Theatre Delicatessen, with whom they developed highly successful immersive show, The Cake Shop.
