Sheffield College Students

College can be an exciting and fun time where you make new friends and have an increased sense of freedom, but it's also a time where you have more responsibility and extra pressure from the demands of your course or forming new relationships. For some people the transition to college can be overwhelming and they can feel a lack of control especially if you have low self-esteem or have other stressful things going on in your personal life.

The average age that people develop an eating disorder is in the college-aged
years but despite this we don't see many people from this age group receiving help from Syeda, this means the eating disorder is given longer to take control of your life. It is best to receive help as early as possible.

We understand that it can be difficult to come and see us to get help for a number of reasons.

  • You may feel anxious
  • You may not know what to expect
  • You may feel you don't have an eating disorder so you don't to come to our center.
  • You may find it difficult to travel to us especially during the day if you are at college.

This is why we can come to see you at college where you are already familiar with your surroundings and you don't have to worry about traveling to us. You can see us at any of the four Sheffield College Campuses once a month in student services.

The drop in sessions are known as 'Mirror Me' (you may have seen the posters at college). They are held on Tuesdays between 11.30-1.30, you don't have to make an appointment you can just drop in.

What to expect:
You will see a syeda staff member who is understanding and non-judgmental. You can talk to us about how you're feeling even if you don't feel like you have an eating disorder but feel like your body image or eating habits are getting you down. You may be overeating or under eating which is making your life miserable, everyone is different and you don't have to fit into a box that says you have to be super thin to have an eating disorder. People who have an eating disorder can be any shape or size. For more information please look at our page 'Types of Eating Disorders' http://www.syeda.org.uk/view/typesofeatingdisorders. Once you've spoken to us we may be able to give you some advice and if you need more help you can see one of our counselors at college for counseling sessions. To find out more about our counseling sessions check out this page 'Counseling' http://www.syeda.org.uk/view/counselling

We don't weigh or measure you or take blood tests and the sessions are confidential. They don't affect your medical or student records.

If you can't make it on the days that we are at your college or you would like to see us at our building instead of at college then just get in touch with us and we'll try to make other arrangements.

Please see details below for our drop in session dates, times and rooms at your college.
