LGBT Young people
Negative messages about being LGBT that are reflected by the media, religion, families, peers etc. can, and do, have a profound and detrimental effect on the mental well being of lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgendered people. Research and experience show that LGBT people have high rates of depression, low self esteem, self harm and EATING DISORDERS, problems which are often linked to early messages about their sexuality and worth in society.
If you are a young person who is LBGT you may have heard of 'Fruitbowl', Fruitbowl is a youth group and support service in Sheffield for LGBT young people of secondary school age. They run a group every Friday evening from 5-7pm in a city centre location.
On the second Friday of every month, SYEDA runs a drop in service at Fruitbowl from 4.30-5.30pm. This is an opportunity to talk to a Syeda worker about how you feel if you are experiencing issues around food, exercise and body image. You can attend for yourself or if you are concerned about a friend and would like some information.
Check out the poster designed by a Fruitbowl group user who won themselves and their friends a bowling trip!
For more information, dates and contact details please see below.

The sessions are useful if:
- You just want to talk to someone who understands.
- You want to find out more about eating Disorders.
- You would like to know what support is available for you or for someone you are worried about.
- You do not have an eating disorder but feel as though food or exercise is starting to rule your life.
- You feel you are ready to recover and want help on the road to recovery.
These are the dates you can see us at Fruitbowl (2nd Friday of the Month)
